Trend Alert: ASI Show Orlando

Color was on display at the ASI Show Orlando, especially with these new Clique jackets in both men’s (MQO00030) and women’s (LQO00020) from Cutter & Buck (asi/47965).

The optimism that enveloped the attendees at The ASI Show Orlando (which took place January 5-7) was matched by the apparel industry’s continuing infatuation with color. From neon caps to eye-pleasing thermals, suppliers continued to expand their color palette to meet customers’ growing demand for choice. Perry Ellis International (asi/77715), for example, unveiled golf polos in a whole new range of brights and pastels. The supplier also is offering coordinating polos with matched panel colors. “These are the colors we sell in [golf] tournaments that are translating to corporate owners,” says Jeff Smith, vice president of the corporate division of PEI.

Color wasn’t the only trend thriving at the show. Here is what else was making noise on the show floor:

Burnout: Those who believe that burnout’s moment had come and gone were set straight by the wealth of new options for 2013. In Your Face Apparel (asi/62494) featured its stretch neon burnout shirts (H03) in four electric colors. J.America (asi/62977) debuted a new hoodie with a paisley burnout pattern. MV Sport/Weatherproof (asi/68318) presented a full range of burnout styles, including a new lightweight burnout pullover (W2388). “It’s been strong for us,” says Charlie McGuinness, national sales manager for the corporate & golf divisions of Weatherproof/MV Sport, about the demand for burnouts. “We have different silhouette offerings and we’ve been adding new colors.”

New Products: Plenty of new products were launched at the show. Stewart/Stand (asi/54588) unveiled a woven stainless steel wallet that is lightweight, durable and offers RFID protection. Visual Expressions revealed the hipS-sister (asi/61103), a stretchy band of fabric (think of the waistband of a pair of yoga pants) with pockets that is the fashionable alternative to a fanny pack. Also launched were Heat Cuffs (asi/60500), a hands-free handswarmer that wraps around the wrist or ankle and directs heat into extremities using a self-activated powder.

The Zen Thermal

Whether using it for quiet meditation (as its namesake) or simply offering a casual-chic look, this women’s Zen thermal long-sleeve tee (255) has it covered. Available from J.America (asi/62977), this trendy top is made of 60% cotton/40% polyester burnout thermal. Featuring a pouch pocket with flatlock stitching, the tee comes in sizes S-XXL. Color options include navy, wildberry (pictured), very berry, and dark smoke.
